Charlton House wedding

Russell and Tanya had been together for twenty years but he had never wanted to marry. They had children and built a home, and each leap year she would propose to him, and each time he refused. Then in 2020, he said yes. Finally!

For Tanya it was her dream come true. The next day she marched him to the jewellery shop to make sure he bought a ring to confirm it.

The dress was a Ronald Joyce from Bellamore in Bexleyheath.

Tanya made her own bouquet, then had her shoes made and perfectly coloured matched by Rainbow Club.

The Long Gallery at Charlton House

Charlton House was built in 1612 for Sir Adam Newton. Many a banquets have been had, and many weddings photographed.

The wood-panelled walls, carved marble fireplaces and plasterwork ceiling make a photogenic venue.

The Walled Gardens, Charlton House

The beautiful gardens at Charlton House are available for wedding photographers to capture lovely pictures of the newly married couples.

Dan was very great in asking the right questions before the big day. He took great care in delivering all the things we asked for and as a result we have some great memories captured in pictures. The photos caught all the emotions of the day I especially love the picture of my father crying with joy. We are so glad we trusted Dan with one of our most special days in our life. Charlton Rugby Club Reception

This was a lovely venue, as they have the bar and catering facilities and a large patio area. The green spaces are great for the kids and parking is no problem.

Wedding photos at Charlton House

Built during the reign of James I and one of the finest examples of Jacobean domestic architecture in the country, Charlton House enjoys a fascinating history of romance.

Four ornate rooms, long sweeping driveway, beautiful walled gardens, the photo opportunities are endless. Key highlights of the house are the Minstrel Hall, Old Library and Long Gallery, in the above photos, where our bride and groom had their wedding ceremony.

Family group wedding photos

The stairway leading up to the main doors of Charlton House are a perfect place for confetti photos.

The archway on the lawn before the historic façade is an ideal place for large groups of wedding guests to be photographed with the bride and groom.

We had shots of the bride’s family, then the groom’s family. Then we took photos of the bridesmaids together and all the groomsmen. It’s always a good ide for the best man to have a list of photos decided before the wedding. Even if the couple think this is a dull aspect of the day, the fact is that the family wedding photo is the one that ends up on parents’ mantlepieces. It is a very important photograph.

The Walled Gardens for romantic portraits

There are three beautiful gardens at the rear of Charlton house. All are perfect of romantic wedding photography. They are opened by arrangement with Charlton House and sometimes opened to the public as well.

Herbaceous Garden

Stunning outdoor space perfect for summer drinks receptions, and barbecues, or just lovely photographs of a bride and groom. The family photos can also be captured here.

 Walled Garden

Beautiful peaceful garden perfect for romantic portraits, summer drinks receptions and parties.. The photos above were shot in the walled garden, which was opened especially for the bride and groom. We walked around and I pointed my camera and clicked as the couple enjoyed the flowers and trees. I made sure the backgrounds included the beautiful colours for the photographs to come alive in the album later.

 Peace Garden

The beautiful peace garden, commissioned by Amnesty International and officially opened by the Mayor of Greenwich, Kate Allen and Jo Brand on 6th July 2006, is a stunning space for wedding photography as well as drinks receptions and parties.

Accessibility at Charlton House

Most of the house is accessible by wheelchair but some areas may need assistance. Just ask us for help. Disabled parking is also available with designated bays in the house car park complimentary for blue badge holders. 

Transport for wedding guests

Bus routes: 53, 54, 380, 422 and 486.

Train: Charlton Station (British Rail) then 10-minute walk (uphill) or 486 bus to Warren Walk. Proceed up hill to Charlton House.

Tube: North Greenwich (Jubilee Line), then take 486 bus to Warren Walk. Proceed up hill to Charlton House.

For wedding and photographers, Charlton house and Gardens is very accessible.

Parking for Charlton House Weddings

Pay parking is available. Vendors such as photographers can collect a free ticket from the reception. The bridal party can arrive in their hired car right to the front steps, where the car can wait to whisk them away, or for more photos outside the historic building.
